Have Your Voice Heard
(HYVH)

HYVH is a group of young people working towards a better future for themselves and other young people in Leeds.

Through creative activities, new experiences and skills workshops, we aim to nurture young people’s self-esteem, build community and make sure their voice is heard. The activities are informed and shaped by the community so they can try new things and do things they enjoy with others.

We meet every fortnight on a Saturday afternoon, at a venue in Leeds city centre, and the group is open to young adults with lived experience of mental health needs.

“Eleanor has created a space that I can trust and know I can bring any issue to.”

HYVH was previously run by The Market Place, and has been adopted and enhanced by Leeds Sanctuary.

If you’d like more information or to join the group, please contact our Wellbeing Practitioner, Eleanor.

Previous sessions have included curating a group playlist, making “talking signs” and planning a costume party. These activities support inclusive communication, collaboration, and expression of identity in a safe space.

Make a donation

Colorful donation chart titled "Leeds Sanctuary" with suggested donation amounts accompanied by financial descriptions, ranging from £0 for those with no savings to £15 for those with significant disposable income. Background is gradient yellow to blue.

We are pleased to be able to offer HYVH for free, but we would be grateful if you would consider making a donation or becoming a regular giver to Leeds Sanctuary so that we can continue to run these sessions for anyone who would like to come.

Accessibility and Safeguarding

Our Wellbeing Practitioner, Eleanor, has consulted with the current group members to ensure access needs are taken into account as a priority, and the venue we currently use has a flat entrance, no stairs and a fully accessible bathroom.  A sensory map has been created which details lighting levels, noise levels and other potential stimuli.

We have fidget toys in very session, and you’re always welcome to bring your own! We also have talking signs to indicate when you have something to say, and you’ll have the chance to make your own talking sign if you join us.

Regular check-ins are offered between meetings, so if you have a new or recently identified need, we can work together to ensure it is met. Eleanor will send out the plan of activities ahead of each session, so you know what to expect when you arrive.

We believe that Safeguarding is at the heart of Sanctuary, and you can read our Safeguarding policy here. We do take photos at these events which may be shared in digital spaces and in print, but if you would prefer not to be in these photos, please let a member of our Team know on the day.
